Chinese firm Nexchip announces 180 megapixel full-frame CMOS image sensor

Nexchip, a Chinese semiconductor company, recently announced that it has launched the industry's first 180 megapixel full-frame (2.77-inch) CMOS image sensor (CIS) in conjunction with design firm SmartSens .

This provides more choices of image sensors for high-end DSLR camera applications, and breaks the long-standing monopoly of Japan's Sony in the field of ultra-high-pixel full-frame CIS.

The successful trial production of the first 180 megapixel full-frame CIS not only marks the successful application of lithography splicing technology in the field of large-target-plane sensors, but also paves the way for the development of more large-target-plane full-frame and medium-frame sensors in the future.
